Ultrafast Optics and Nanophotonics (DON) Research teams of DON Theoretical Quantum Dynamics of Nano-objects (DYNO)

Theoretical Quantum Dynamics of Nano-objects (DYNO)

The DYNO group (quantum DYnamics of Nano-Objects) is part of the Department of Optics and Nano-photonics (DON) within the Institut de Physique et Chimie des Matériaux de Strasbourg (IPCMS). Experimental research at DON focuses on ultrafast optics, particularly femto- and attosecond laser pulses used to study the interaction of light and matter in metals, semiconductors, ferromagnets, and biological molecules.

Our group works on the theoretical modeling and numerical simulation of such systems, with particular emphasis on the nonlinear quantum dynamics of charges and spins in various types of nano-objects, such as thin metal films, metal clusters and nanoparticles, and semiconductor quantum dots.

For this purpose, we have developed a portfolio of analytical and computational tools that range from the complete N-body description for systems composed of a small number of electrons, to mean-field-like models (Hartree, density-functional theory, Wigner and Vlasov approaches), down to macroscopic models of the hydrodynamic type. In particular, our group is an expert on the phase-space dynamics of quantum systems, based on Wigner functions.

The group currently consists of two permanent staff (Paul-Antoine Hervieux and Giovanni Manfredi) and several post-doctoral researchers, PhD and Master students.
