Mechanics workshop

Mechanics workshop

The IPCMS workshop is composed of 5 mecanicians who actively contribute to the development of the IPCMS experimental set-ups, from conception to partial or full realization.
The workshop harbors several conventionnal lathe and milling machines, and one numerical milling machine. All types of materials are machined, common and refractory metals, ceramics, plastics. Welding of aluminum, stainless steel and solder are mastered.

The workshop is strongly invoved in teaching, as for example through lectures and practicals given at the IUT Louis Pasteur. Since 2014, the workshop is  welcoming trainees and apprentices in machining.
Involvement in large facilities:

The IPCMS worshop contributes to the development of the DEIMOS beamline at synchrotron SOLEIL. In particular it is involved in the development of the “CROMAG” end-station and its ultra-high vacuum environment.

Examples of some executions:

* Hyperfrequency measurement bench under magnetic field:  photo1, photo 2, photo 3

* Sample and STM-tip heating system by electron bombardment under ultra-high vacuum, allowing the transfer of samples in vacuum.

* Parking lot for samples in ultra-high vacuum.

* Ultra-high vacuum environment of the DEIMOS beamline endstation at synchrotron SOLEIL

* “Multiferroic” manipulator of the DEIMOS beamline at synchrotron SOLEIL

* Ultra-high vacuum 4-axes manipulator, fitted with a commercial cryogenic insert  (DEIMOS beamline at synchrotron SOLEIL).

The end part of the variable temperature insert can be fitted with a multi-contact transferable sample-holder, developed and realized by the IPCMS workshop.
It allows x-ray absorption measurements with electrically polarized samples, like tunnel junctions, under magnetic field at low temperature.
Minimum sample temperature is 12 K.
