Quantum sciences and materials

Quantum sciences are at the heart of an ongoing conceptual and industrial revolution based on the exquisite understanding and control of the physics of condensed matter systems, electromagnetic waves and their interactions. These breakthroughs lay the groundwork for future technologies with major impacts on our societies, in computation, communication and sensing.

The IPCMS embraces the quantum world with a broad and complementary expertise spanning from materials and surface science, magnetism and optics to explore novel phenomena and new systems from an atomic to a mesoscopic scale, through rigorous and original research activities gathered along the following topics:

  • – Quantum phases of matter
  • – Atomic-scale quantum physics and sensing
  • – Spectroscopy and dynamics of quantum systems
  • – Quantum devices and engines

These research efforts are structured through the graduate school and Interdisciplinary Thematic Institute QMat and the Eucor QSTEC initiative (Quantum Science and Technologies at the European Campus).
